Knee replacement surgery

Knee injuries can be the result of direct trauma, sporting activities, or simply low-velocity injuries in which all the forces are going in the wrong direction at the wrong time.

Knee replacement is a surgical procedure in which the affected knee joint bone and cartilage is replaced with artificial material. Whether you require surgery or not, depends on your desired lifestyle and physical needs.

Do I need knee replacement surgery?

If you are experiencing the following symptoms, you may require surgery

  • Severe knee pain that limits your everyday activities
  • Moderate or severe knee pain when resting
  • Long-lasting knee swelling and inflammation
  • No pain relief from medication

Recovery after knee replacement surgery

Following surgery, you will generally stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 days, and longer if needed. Patients who need extra attention or do not have home support may be transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation centre. We make every effort to help you return to your home environment with additional support.

If you have severe knee pain, contact Dr Salie for a comprehensive consultation. During your consultation, he will assess your medical history and any symptoms you may be having. After a thorough examination, Dr Salie will recommend the most suitable treatment options.
